The Sopwith Camel, built by the Sopwith Aviation Company, was a British fighter plane in the First World War. With 1294 kills, the double -decker is the most successful of his time. The original factory name was SOPWITH BIPLANE F1, but due to the two machine guns, the aircraft quickly got the nickname Camel, which over time became an official name.
The first flight of the Camel took place around 1916/1917. Some of the 5490 planes built still exist in museums and collector hands today.
Due to the transparent cotton covering, the complex wood substructure, which is assembled by hand, is very visible. Some parts in the cockpit and the engine are made of metal.
